Two millennia of wine history in the Southern Rhône Valley has naturally created a selection of grape varietals well adapted to the Lirac region and its terroir: soil, landscape and climate. The Lirac appellation extends itself on the low hills alongside the river, just across the Rhone river from the beautiful vineyards of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
Rodolphe de Pins, owner and winemaker at Chateau de Montfaucon, is very attached to the idea that they must conserve this natural heritage that is a true asset to their region. This evolution leads to well balanced and harmonious wines with a true identity of Rhône.
This cuvee, named after Baron Louis de Montfaucon, the founder of the family who restored the medieval castle of Montfaucon in the 19th century. He was a true wine lover, and produced and sold his own wines. It is in his honor that this cuvée, a blend of five grape varieties (50% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 15% Cinsault, 10% Carignan, 10% Mourvèdre), bears his name. Baron Louis has the richness of the Southern Rhone Valley wines associated with the finesse and elegance that characterize Montfaucon’s wines. Sourced from a selection of the Chateau's old vines, with an average age of 60 years old.
