The Moreau family has been settled in the heart of Chablis since 1884. Louis Moreau, the sixth generation, studied oenology and viticulture in California and took over from his father when he returned to France in 1994. Nowadays, the domaine's vineyards extend all over the four levels of the appellation: Petit Chablis, Chablis, Premier Cru and Grand Cru.

Named Les Fourneaux since 1537 and with an excellent sun exposure, this Climat’s name certainly refers to heat. Louis Moreau's Les Fourneaux has an intense floral nose: rose petals aromas intermingle with hints of acacia flowers, and has notes of vanilla too. On the palate, it is very round, with a beautifully balanced acidity and freshness.

This wine will pair nicely with grilled scallops.

About the Winery

Domaine Louis Moreau

Winemaker Louis Moreau is the master of the Chablis terroir, where he bottles 100% Chardonnay wines from all four levels of appellation: Petit Chablis, Chablis, Chablis Premier Crus and Chablis Grands Cru.

The Domaine owns parcels in five of the seven Grands Cru climats, and works with many plots throughout the region in a sustainable manner. The most prestigious of its wines is the monopole Chablis Grand Cru 'Clos des Hospices' dans Les Clos AOC 2016, acquired by the Moreau family in 1904.

Louis Moreau, who has been leading the domaine since 1994, produces wines with a unique style. Louis Moreau studied oenology-viticulture at Fresno State University and worked at different Californian wineries before he took over the Domaine's operations in 1994, representing the family's sixth generation of vignerons.

Press Reviews

Wine Align

94 Points - David Lawrason

From a warm year this is a very well composed, generous yet tender Chablis with bountiful apple/peach fruit on the nose, some florality and dried herbs (anise). It is medium weight, a bit more rounded than some, generous and easy drinking. Not as lean and taut but very refined. Excellent length. Tasted January 2023

Decanter

Intriguing nose, with some smoky, reductive elements combined with lime cordial notes. The palate continues the lime fruit story and backs this up with a fine thread of acidity to match the concentration. A distinctive and interesting example of this less well-known climat. Drinking window: 2022-2027. Score - 91. (Andy Howard, MW, decanter.com, Oct. 10, 2021)
