Nicolas Potel is an iconic producer in Burgundy. He grew up in a family dedicated entirely to wine; and after gaining some experience internationally, he started his own project in the late 90's.

Founded in 2009, Maison Roche de Bellene offers a complete range of wines, with an emphasis on individual terroirs from vieilles vignes (old vines - 40 years or older) that are farmed responsibly. All of the growers that Nicolas Potel works with are either organic certified or farming according to the principles of lutte raisonée (“sustainable viticulture”). This enables Potel to consistently produce the expressive, terroir-driven style that is his vision.

An elegant dry and medium-bodied Old World Pinot Noir from Burgundy. Earthy and floral on the nose with ripe red berry, cherry, sweet spice, savoury herb and flinty flavours on the palate.

A nice option for pairing with grilled chicken, poached salmon or pheasant pie.

Wine Align - Michael Godel

90 points

Cuvée Réserve Bourgogne is the workhorse for Nicolas Potel and for good reason because it uses experienced vines' fruit, including some of 40+ years which could very well end up in higher caste cuvées. As it stands this pinot noir just plain hits the spot while carving out an appellative Bourgogne niche at a price just stable and tiered enough to allow for a by the glass pour. Carries the Bellene torch of luxe fruit yet with a savoury evergreen edginess to speak the language of the times. Sure it lacks the concentration of old vines or cru specific Bourgogne but there's both generosity and stuffing befitting the price tag. Drink 2023-2026.
