We are entering that little transition time between Summer and Fall, and we can agree that we want our white wines to be more textured and fuller bodied. This mixed case features four delicious white wines from Spain and France. A case includes 3 bottles of each wine.
3 bottles x Denis et Didier Berthollier Cru Chignin Vieilles Vignes 2021 (Savoie, France)
White | Jacquère
93 points by Wine Align
The Bertholliers come from a long wine-making tradition; growers, owners and winemakers for several generations dating back to 1850. Today, brothers Denis and Didier own several parcels on the southernmost and steepest parts of the Savoie hills whose abrupt slopes, too difficult to work on, had been abandoned by their forefathers at the beginning of the 20th century. But this is the terrain where the grapes thrive. Made from 50 year-old vines of Jacquère. Nose of white flowers and citrus fruit, white peach and lemon. Beautifully fresh, mouth-watering citrus and mineral palate with a certain salinity.
Pairing suggestion: The perfect pairing for cured meats and rich fish dishes.
3 bottles x Pardevalles Albarín Blanco 2021 (Tierra de León, Spain)
White | Albarín
Pardevalles is recognized for being one of the driving forces behind the D.O Tierra de León, betting on the development of the indigenous grape varieties Prieto Picudo and Albarín Blanco. The Albarín grape is an indigenous variety from the south of the province of León. This grape variety had almost disappeared until Pardevalles recovered it. This expressive Albarín Blanco shows fresh aromas of herbs and citrus, notes of white fruit and some earthy and mineral qualities. Lively and crisp, this wine is quite original. Good acidity, with flavours of herbs and citrus on the palate and a smooth finish.
Pairing suggestion: This Spanish white goes perfectly with pasta dishes, seafood and fish. If you are feeling adventurous in the kitchen, make a paella with seafood!
3 bottles x Mas Carlot Générations Blanc Costières de Nîmes 2020 (Côtes du Rhône, France)
White | Marsanne, Roussanne, Viognier
Mas Carlot is situated in Costières de Nîmes, a beautiful pebbly land around Nîmes and Arles in the Southern Rhône, and makes some of the very best value wines in the whole of France. This blend of 60% Roussanne, 30% Marsanne and 10% Viognier is outstanding. An elegant white that offers up notes of peach marmalade, apricots, honeyed pears, candle wax and a touch of buttered brioche. With a good fresh acidity as well as abundant fruit and flavour, this attractive, medium-bodied wine overdelivers.
Pairing suggestion: Pair this rich white well with shellfish, chicken, veal, pork and vegetables prepared with savoury butter, cream or mild cheese-based sauces.
3 bottles x Domaine La Grangette 'Poule de Pic' Picpoul de Pinet AOP 2021 (Languedoc-Roussillon, France)
White | Picpoul de Piinet
Christelle and Matthieu Caron are the two brains behind Domaine La Grangette. They elaborate wines under the Picpoul de Pinet appellation. This designation is used within the Languedoc for white wines made from the variety Piquepoul Blanc. Nestled between the pine forest and the Mediterranean Sea, Christelle and Matthieu apply sustainable practices in their vineyards and other crops. The sea-scented breeze imbues the wine with salinity, resulting in a fresh, floral and citrusy wine, with aromas of lemon zest and tangerine.
Pairing suggestion: Crisp, pure and extremely refreshing, this wine is made to be enjoyed young and sipped on its own all summer long. It pairs nicely with grilled octopus or ceviche!
