Mullineux Family Wines was established in 2007 in the Swartland region of South Africa, owned and managed by Chris and Andrea Mullineux. Within a very short time period the winery established itself as one of South Africa’s most celebrated wine brands, both locally and on the international front.

The grapes for this wine come from seven sustainably farmed vineyard parcels in different parts of the Swartland: four parcels planted in the stony Shale and Schist based soils of the Kasteelberg; two parcels of dry-land, bush vines grown in the decomposed Granite of the Paardeberg; and one on the rolling, iron-rich soils west of Malmesbury. The vines are aged between 22 and 30 years

This Syrah has aromas of violets, black plums and hints of dill and tomato leaf. On the palate there is an abundance of succulent dark fruit with undertones of sour cherry and anise. This multilayered wine is elegant and fresh, with velvety tannins and a seamless, finish.

Best served at 16 to 18 °C, this wine will greatly benefit from decanting if drunk within the first 3 to 5 years after bottling.

The Swartland has a very unique geology which allows for exploration of its various terroirs through Western Cape classic varieties like Chenin Blanc and Syrah, among others.

This is the most structured Syrah in the Single Terroir range. On the nose there are notes of black pepper, black fruit and spices. The palate is full-bodied with a meaty, savoury character, plenty silky tannins giving structure and a balancing natural acidity. The finish is fresh, long and supple.

The IRON Syrah vineyard, on the rolling hills outside of Malmesbury, has always been very important in creating a Syrah with incredible mid-palate, deep fragrance and round tannins, due to the ancient, rich, gravelly Koffieklip soils they are grown on.

Brimming with flavours of wild blueberry and dark plum that lead, into hints of tomato leaf, aromatic allspice and a floral complexity. The full-bodied meatiness of this wine, has a freshness and long finish that intertwines with its fine grain tannins.

The GRANITE Syrah is from a single parcel of sustainably farmed dry land bush vines, planted in the late 80’s in the deep decomposed Granitic soil of the Paardeberg. This is the parcel of Syrah that gives the best expression of the Paardeberg’s terroir – freshness and perfume.

This floral perfumed Syrah is the most elegant of the single-terroir Syrahs. The palate is medium to full bodied and delicately spicy, with a silky texture balanced by a fresh, natural acidity. There are notes of black pepper, violets and lilies, red berries and herbs.

Great Heart is the staff empowerment project of Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines, known for their multi-award winning Leeu Passant and Mullineux wineries. Aimed at improving the livelihoods of those who work for the company as well as their families, the Great Heart wine brand is collectively owned by the winery staff and a portion of all sales under this label go directly to them. They're committed to sustainable and ethical farming to preserve the natural environment & well-being of the community. 

Grapes for the 2020 Great Heart Swartland Red came from dry farmed bush vine (goblet) parcels in the Swartland, aged 16-40 years. Consisting of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon & 18% Shiraz, the perfumed nose has notes of plums, mulberries, cloves and black pepper. The palate is full but firm and fresh with lovely fruit, spice and length. 

Pair with braised or roasted meats, such as braised short ribs or match with herb-infused dishes & grilled veg.

After settling in South Africa in 1990, Argentinian-born Billy Hughes was inspired to start his own wine venture in the Cape. After learning the ropes of viticulture and winemaking on his own, he and his late wife Penny bought an old wheat farm in Malmesbury, near Cape Town in the year 2000. Now, more than two decades after its inception, Nativo Wines continues to explore innovative and sustainable ways of making wine. The last few years has seen the addition of some single varietal wines to their range and the design of some one-of-a-kind cellar equipment.

The name Nativo encompasses allusions to Billy’s native origins, his progress to becoming a naturalised South African and desire to produce wines that are reflective of their origin, infused with site-specific characteristics.

An elegant Swartland blend with aromas of small red berries, bramble and anise, complemented by distinctive mineral overtones. The palate offers a silky mouthfeel and a gentle finish propped up by ripe tannins. Juicy and medium-bodied with generous fruit flavours balanced by keen acidity.
