The domaine de Bellene is situated in the city centre of Beaune in Burgundy France, where Nicolas Potel runs a successful winery and négociant operation. Nicolas is widely respected for his unrivalled local network, savvy salesmanship, and winemaking genius. Every wine in this offer comes from Nicolas' own vineyards, which are situated in Santenay, Saint Romain, Volnay, Beaune, Nuits Saint Georges and Vosne Romanée. Wines bottled under the Domaine de Bellene label – Bellene being a pre-Medieval name for Beaune, are made with fruit from old, well-established vines using biodynamic methods and low-intervention practices.
About the vintage: What started as a challenging year ultimately developed into one of promising opportunities. The 2022 growing season was characterized by a warm, dry summer with record heat waves causing water stress in certain areas. These conditions fostered accelerated ripening, leading to an earlier-than-usual harvest. Despite the extreme elements, yields remained strong, largely due to reduced disease pressure and the encouragement of small, flavour-concentrated berries. Wines from this vintage are expected to be deep and complex, with rich texture and lush fruit balanced by vibrant mineral character.
Now the time is yours to journey through the most original expressions of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from some of Burgundy's finest climats – the region's most exceptional vineyard sites. Beaune Voyage!

About the Winery
Groupe Bellene
Led by Nicolas Potel in Beaune, Groupe Bellene is composed of the négociant arm Maison Roche de Bellene, the winery arm Domaine de Bellene, and a special back-vintage series under the Collection Bellenum label.
- Maison Roche de Bellene offers a complete range of wines, with an emphasis on individual terroirs from old vines of more than 40 years. All of the growers that Nicolas works with are either organic certified or sustainably farmed.
- Domaine de Bellene represents the wines that are produced and bottled from Nicolas Potel's private vineyard holdings.
- Collection Bellenum is a back vintage series that Nicolas Potel sourced from his friends in the region, offering a magnificent selection of bottled history. The wines have moved only twice in their lives, from the original cellar to Potel's and now to yours!
Nicolas Potel grew up at Volnay's Domaine Pousse d'Or, where his father worked. He trained abroad and returned home in 1996 to build a négociant business and started Maison Nicolas Potel, where he sourced grapes from good parcels, often working with the growers to improve the quality. By 2002, he was making 120 wines from 50 different appellations, and the rest is history!

From a tiny plot planted in 1998, this shows a gorgeous, perfumed nose of blackcurrant, boxwood, violet, wood spice, vanillin and minerality. It is medium bodied, edging to full bodied, which is rare in Burgundy. All kinds of power, sinewy tannin and internal combustion here, with a very mineral finish. Great focus, concentration and outstanding length. This will live 20 or more years.

Single lieu-dit, abutting Pommard, planted in 1985. Forty years is not nothing to bring pinot noir into the wealth and onto that stage of experience. A small 0.415 hectare plot picked on September the first in 2022, aromas captured, the seafood scent of brittle gill mushroom in its entry and more earthiness along the way. Much more so then the Savigny or Beaune cuvée and so while some diehards will feel rusticity and tradition, others will be invited to as well. For lovers of more classic design and pull, still with great ’22 fruit and the kind of structure that means this will live a good long life. Stretches its wings like a long, languid bird, the oiseau of Grands Poisots. Drink 2025-2033

A very pretty and refined Savigny old vines from domaine vines, always a solid bottling from Nicolas Potel, and attractively priced. 2022 was a warm vintage to be sure, but there's impressive balance and poise here, a purity of cherry fruit, a suppleness of tannins and comfort of the acids that beguiles. Length and depth are very good, and it's drinking remarkably well even at this early stage - it won't be a vintage for the long term I feel, but there will be considerable pleasure up front.
