Daniele Saccoletto

Amidst the rolling hills and the river Po, nestled within the forests, fields and meadows, the Saccoletto Daniele Winery sits quietly watching over their ten hectares of land spread between the towns of San Giorgio and Rosignano for over forty years. Here in eastern Piemonte they craft their wines with careful precision, honesty, and completely organic.
Each year brings something new because nature is not consistent and they are more than up to the challenge to adapt, constantly adapting to the land and the fruit of each vintage. Being outside the DOC/DOCG system, their approache often involves long maturation on the skins with natural yeasts, and hand harvesting. Certified Organic since 2000.

A Lovely, crunchy barbera in modern packaging. In addition to crunch, the palate is substantial and the long oak ageing is deliciously integrated. Offering very good structure and finesse with an unmanipulated feel. Named after great-aunt "Litina" whose dowry brought the vineyard to the family. Very good length. Tasted August 2020.

Sister wine Passum by Costigiole d'Asti's Cascina Castlet is a thick varietal stew with lightning bolts of acidity and grippy structure. Such a big wine of larger than life personality with white peppery piques and properly spiced, mild dark chocolate bitterness. Will age without trepidation or any true concern. Litina repeats the mantra albeit with more depth and also more barrel concern. A stronger and more ambitious barbera than its sibling with increased bones, karst and structure. Drink 2021-2026. Tasted August 2020.
90 points - David Lawrason
This is a pretty and serious barbera. Not highly lifted and aromatic but authentic with raspberry/currant fruit, barbera's charcuterie note and some herbality. It is medium-full bodied, fairly dense with firm acidity, alcohol warmth and tannin. Nice sense of proportion here. Fairly tannic and the length is excellent. Give it two years. Tasted August 2020.
90 points - John Szabo
Juicy, lively, vibrant but dense and concentrated barbera here, with typically light and supple tannins, fresh acids, and plenty of ripe black cherry fruit on the palate. Length and depth are very good. Solid wine. Tasted August 2020.

This is a beautiful, ripe Barolo with a solid center palate of ripe fruit and firm tannins. It’s full-bodied and powerful. The intense tannins are focused and integrated, blending into the wine. Vibrant finish. Real deal. Needs two or three years to soften.

Another highly seasoned nebbiolo of rather dark red fruit and barrel piques that create spikes and valleys in the wine. Hangs on with enough energy to see the acidity match the fruit stride for stride. There's a sense of structure to see this '16 last for a decade strong and long. Drinking window will open shortly so the temptation will be to imbibe often and early, thereby fertilizing the narcotic poppy of drinking pleasure. Drink 2022-2030. Tasted January 2020.

She transformed all 20 hectares of her land into a fully organic vineyard during a time where major producers of Barolo and Barbaresco were abandoning tradition to compete commercially. Instead of following the trend, she struck out on her own, and made wines that resonated with her past and passions. Known for the very first certified organic Barbaresco of Italy, Marina continues to show the world that you can preserve tradition and think of the future simultaneously.

Mainly dolcetto (70 per cent) with barbera and nebbiolo. Not much of the latter but necessary to widen the expression of the Langhe. Here it’s an explanation point, not a question, as in a confirmation of the exclamatory Piedmontese expression. Bright red amalgamated fruit with proper acidity and the ability to work alongside anyone and all. Drink 2019-2022. Tasted November 2019.

Next stage complexity emerges from this extraordinarily ulterior half and half white from Marina Macarino’s Domaine Punset in Barbaresco. Get your disco dancing shoes on with a glass of this sweet nectar, dry as the Neive hills and ready to rock. Last tasted January 2021.
Ne’? is the “Piedmontese” way of ending a sentence, like ‘eh in Canada. A 50-50 arneis and favortita mix, salt missive over fruit and extremely fresh. The aperitíf white that connects dialectal territory with those in the diaspora that want a taste. Drink 2019-2021. Tasted November 2019.

Taken from San Sebastiano area, vines 15-20 years old in Monforte d’Alba. “We have a special view of the nebbiolo," tells Daniele Gaia. "In our point of view it has to show the character of the grape, flowers, drinkability and approachable, not a baby Barolo." And so Réva attacks with a gentle touch, a short and cold maceration to secure nebbiolo kept in a “light” vein, with evident acidity. Carries the youthful "splendore" of beautiful red fruit. A precociousness unhindered, on hinges, in ultra comfortable balance. Drink 2020-2024. Tasted January 2020.

Bodegas Puiggròs

Since 1843, the Puiggros family has been producing wines from their own vines in the Odena region of Catalunya for the family and close friends. Over generations they had come to realize that their vineyards and techniques were something worth sharing with the world. A sincere dedication to the terroir in their zone and the indigenous varieties that grow there, allows them to constantly discover ways to unlock all of the magic that lies within their land.
Starting with conscious and clean farming in the vineyard, they hand-harvest only the best fruit for their production, and ferment each vineyard separately in varying vessels to accentuate what the vines have to show; some in stainless steel, and many in clay amphora of differing sizes. All the while seeing very little sulfur use (if any) until bottling. Puiggros is pushing the quality of northeastern Spain's wines forward, and doing so in a clean and unique way.
Cantine Barbera

Cantina Barbera is located in the Menfi Coast, on the west coast of Sicily. The vineyards are about one mile from the Mediterranean Sea: an uncontaminated deep blue sea, facing South, where low cliffs and sandy dunes create a beautiful environment protected by the Belice River Natural Reservation Fund.
A third generation farmer, Marilena Barbera farms the Inzolia that her grandfather planted in the 20's, just as she attends to the native varietals that are the new frontier of her own generation: Perricone, Nerello, Alicante, Nero d'Avola and Grillo. Marilena makes her wines praticticing organic farming and natural winemaking, while paying utmost respect to Menfi's terroir.
"At the winery, I chose to work only with spontaneous fermentations and to adopt non invasive winemaking practices, in order to respect the unique personality of Sicilian native grape varieties and the beautiful land to which they belong."
Grains d'Estuaire

Julien Bonneau, (Château Haut Grelot in the Blayais), and his friend Alexandre Lavigne, restaurateur in Saint-Palais-sur-Mer, created in 2014 a range of wines, Grains d'Estuaire, from 'a 10 ha vineyard located in Saint-Bonnet-sur-Gironde, in the south of Charente-Maritime.
Mas des Agrunelles

The couple make wine with the same diligance and passion as other biodynamic winemakers have before them, it all began with experimentation, trial and error- but they quickly moved from organic vines to a fully functioning biodynamique vineyard and winery. They are proud to produce natural wines of high quality. Located 20 km to the northwest of Montpellier in the communes of Argelliers and La Boissiere, at an average altitude of 200 m, influenced by a cold wind coming from the Cevennes via St Martin de Londres, where both Mistral and Tramontane reach top speeds.

Fattoria Nannì

Fattoria Nannì is an organic estate in Apiro in Macerata province in Le Marche, a region on the Adriatic coast of Italy. The estate was founded by Roberto Cantori in 2016. He makes white wines under the Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore DOC. This is one of the most southerly estates in the Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi denomination. It's a dry, cool, luminous area protected by mountains. Monte San Vicino to the east acts as a shield while Monte Conero and the Adriatic Sea are to the north-east. The altitude is 400-450 metres and in this part of Jesi (Apiro, Cupra) the vines mainly face the sea, not the mountains.
