After working several vintages at wineries in France, South Africa and California, Chris & Andrea chose to settle in the Swartland region of South Africa, firmly believing that the granite and schist based terroirs and the old vineyards had the potential to produce truly great wine. They were not wrong.

The Kloof Street range is all about freshness, balance and great drinkability. This wine has notes of sun ripened pears and wet granite. The palate has a vibrant acidity balanced by a soft, round texture and some pithy character. The wine has a fresh, mineral finish.

We recommend to pair this zesty wine with ceviche-style dishes. Pasta al pesto is another terrific pairing option!

About the Winery

Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines

​Mullineux Family Wines, established in 2007 in the Swartland region of South Africa, is owned and managed by Chris and Andrea Mullineux. Within a very short time period the winery established itself as one of South Africa’s most celebrated wine brands, both locally and on the international front. Growing up in Northern California, Winemaker Andrea Mullineux studied Viticulture and Oenology at UC-Davis before working in Stellenbosch and meeting Chris at a wine festival in Champagne. Chris is the Viticulturist, in charge of the vineyards on their farm on Kasteelberg Mountain as well as fruit sourcing for their value Kloof Street wines.

To add to their acclaim, Andrea Mullineux was named Wine Enthusiast’s Winemaker of the Year in 2016. By focusing on producing handcrafted wines from the granite and shale based soils of the Swartland and it is quickly becoming South Africa's wine frontier. Located an hour's drive away from Stellenbosch, the Swartland is rolling hills of wheat and jagged outcrops of old vines.

From a great family of leading edge Cape wines, this is such a great value in strudy, ripe, rich and stony chenin blanc. The nose is classic with pear/quince, clover honey, gentle spice and waxiness. It is quite full bodied with firm, juicy acidity, a touch of sweetness and well moderated alcohol. The length is excellent with some salty minerality in the mix. Bring it on. Tasted October 2021

2020 yielded and broad and generous, comfortable and easy-going, well-balanced and infinitely drinkable chenin from the Swartland in the hands of Andrea and Chris Mullineux, another stand-out value. I love the rich, round texture, the creamy-ripe acids, the abundant yellow-fleshed orchard fruit and the lingering finish. A joyful, happy wine, ready to enjoy or hold short term.
