Nicolas Potel’s access to pinot noir vineyards 35, 50, 60 and even 80 years of age makes for fruit and experience that are virtually unparalleld in Bouroogne AOC. Cuvée Réserve offers fine perennial drinking with medium-bodied concentration and texture thanks to high density plantings on limestone and marl. Big (600L) barrels do the yeoman work to solidify and qualify this pinot noir as the real and authentic deal regardless of quantities and négoce hi-jinx. It’s all just fun and games with a gift of Bourgogne at a more than fair price. Drink 2021-2025. Tasted April 2021.

This is a good example of the pure, still youthful Pinot Noir character that typifies a well-made Bourgogne. Fairly deep intense purple colour. Rather spicy, bright, youthful, ripe, plum-crancherry-raspberry nose with some minerally, sandalwood notes. Dry, medium bodied, tangy, youthful, attractive, fresh, fripe, bright, plum-red-cherry flavours with a very gently cedary, nicely structured, faintly grippy, crisp finish. Has 12.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar . When I taste this, all I can think of is coq au vin
