Fruity & Easy-drinking

The Grosjean family traces its roots back to the village of Fornet in the high mountain passes of the Valle d’Aosta, Italy’s smallest wine region, known as Valgrisenche where they raised cattle and made wine since 1969. Sustainable farming techniques have been in place since 1975: only organic fertilizers are applied and no pesticides or herbicides are used. Today, the winery is run by the third generation: four brothers working together and making some of the most exciting wines in this tiny and magical region.

Grosjean's Cornalin Vigne Rovettaz is a wine characterized by a marked vitality, and the grape that gives it its name is a native with excellent longevity characteristics. It presents itself to the eye with an intense ruby red colour and a fine and wide aroma that recalls the spices and aromatic essence of tobacco. Soft and full on the palate, pleasantly tannic, persistent and with a very low acidity. Ideal with meats, excellent with typical local soups, it also goes well with some Aosta Valley cheeses, such as Fontina DOP.

Single-vineyard, organic, known from the Swiss side of things but here in Valle d'Aosta on the Italian side it takes on a really cured salumi character. High altitude vineyard (part of the highest in Europe) at up to 750m. Really perfumed, grilled herbs and blueberries, with 100 per cent cornalin. This is a really cool wine, rustic and really quite fine. Drink 2018-2024. Tasted May 2018.
