Round & Fresh

When Michel Muré settled in Rouffach and planted his vineyard in the 17th century, he surely had little conception of the beautiful adventure that he was setting in motion for his descendants. In 1935, Alfred Muré extended the property with the addition of the 12-hectare (25-acre) wholly owned Clos Saint Landelin, foreseeing already its potential for exceptional quality. He replanted the terraces, ideally situated with their sunny exposure and shelter from the rain.

Nowadays it is Alfred’s grandson René, together with his children Véronique and Thomas, the 11th and 12th generations of the family, who are responsible for running this exceptional, wholly-owned vineyard and its neighbouring terroirs, using biodynamic methods.

A blend of pinot blanc (25%), pinot auxerrois (25%), riesling (15%), pinot gris (25%) and pinot noir (10%); only perfectly healthy grapes are used to obtain the greatest elegance and vivacity in this crémant.

They are harvested exclusively from the clay-limestone soil of the Rouffach region. This origin gives the Crémant d’Alsace brut its citrus and yellow fruit aromas and its fine structure. The wine acquires its elegance and fullness in the bottle during the second fermentation called prise de mousse. The long contact with the lees and the riddling bring a smoothness that balances the beautiful acidity of the wine. The lees are removed at the time of disgorging and replaced by the liqueur d’expédition. Following disgorgement, the wine is left to rest for a few months to restore its harmony.

Delicate foam; persistent ring of bubbles in the glass. Open nose with apple, vanilla, cinnamon and linden aromas. Round and easy to drink on the palate, with a fresh and long finish. This Crémant is an ideal aperitif.

About the Winery

Domaine Muré

The Muré family has been winegrowers in the region of Rouffach since 1650. In 1935, Alfred Muré, René’s grandfather, bought 32 acres of family-monopole vineyard name Clos St. Landelin, an area that has been described as the best of Alsace Grand Cru since the 7th Century.

Today, René Muré, the 11th generation of the family, along with his children, Véronique and Thomas, are responsible for running their exceptional Grand Cru vineyard and neighbouring terroirs using biodynamic methods. Until this day, they persist in hand-picking every single grape, and focus on crafting wines that preserve the family’s credo. The resulting wines are some of Alsace's finest – powerful, elegant, and age-worthy.

Perfumed, subtle apple notes unfold on the creamy, biscuity palate. This is rounded but fresh, generous but shows tension. A central seam of acidity keeps the dry palate very supple and lets the purity of this wine speak clearly. The mousse is somewhere between creamy and frothy and thus very invigorating. (January 2015)
