Elegant & Lively

Domaine de Bellene is the creation of Nicolas Potel – the son of the legendary Gérard Potel of Domaine Pousse d’Or. Potel is a big name in Burgundian winemaking, and he is known for constantly challenging the borders of winemaking in Burgundy.

This beautiful Savigny-lès-Beaune Villages cuvée is a blend of three parcels: all three vineyards are more than 60 years old and were converted to organic viticulture when they were acquired by the Domaine in 2005 and 2006. The wines from these vineyards are always round and fruity, with soft tannins and a mix of red fruit flavors and this vintage is no exception.

About the vintage: The 2020 vintage is absolutely excellent, lauded as 'almost a dream vintage' by top UK wine buyers and something that you should snap up while you can – especially since it’s clear that there’s going to be very little wine coming out of Burgundy next year (and at much higher prices!)
It is abundantly clear that 2020 produced some magnificent wines, with exceptional balance, freshness and full fruit maturity, yet that also remain very Burgundian in style. There is very little not to like.

In a vintage defined by climate change, 2019 started out unseasonably cool and finished with record high temperatures. Yet, Domaine Bellene managed to skirt the worse consequences and ensured that the wines showed the very best of the vintage. Notes of iron and salt, crunchy mineral and highly perfumed red fruit. Elegant and effortlessly drinkable yet with a simmering vein of acidity and just the right amount of grip. Showcasing the mouth-filling nature of Savigny-les-Beaune without heaviness. Tasted May 2021.
