Domaine de Bellene is the creation of Nicolas Potel – the son of the legendary Gérard Potel of Domaine Pousse d’Or. Potel is a big name in Burgundian winemaking, and he is known for constantly challenging the borders of winemaking in Burgundy.

Aux Chaignots is a Premier Cru vineyard in the northern part of the Nuits-Saint-Georges commune of Burgundy. The vineyard, on the midslope of the Cote d'Or, makes a structured, elegant wine with earthy overtones.

Exotic aromas of smoked meat, dark wild berries, baking chocolate and spices introduces a medium to full-bodied wine with tangy acids, satiny structuring tannins and a deep core of sapid, pungently spicy fruit. This is a definite success.

About the vintage: The 2020 vintage is absolutely excellent, lauded as 'almost a dream vintage' by top UK wine buyers and something that you should snap up while you can – especially since it’s clear that there’s going to be very little wine coming out of Burgundy next year (and at much higher prices!)
It is abundantly clear that 2020 produced some magnificent wines, with exceptional balance, freshness and full fruit maturity, yet that also remain very Burgundian in style. There is very little not to like.

Wine Align - John Szabo, MS

95 points

From a super high-density parcel of vines, 12,000 per hectare planted in 1998, harvested rather early in the last week of August and also very ripe and 14% alcohol declared, it was subsequently aged in 40% new barrels. The net result is a bold and structured wine, billowing with dark cherry fruit, palate coating, voluptuous and mouth filling. Abundant tannins are fully enveloped in fruit; extract and length is excellent. This needs another 3-5 years minimum before engaging, and even better, hold into the early or mid '30s for a more evolved and complete expression. This has genuine density and depth, also fine purity and palate presence. Tasted May 2022.
