Domaine de Bellene is the creation of Nicolas Potel – the son of the legendary Gérard Potel of Domaine Pousse d’Or. Potel is a big name in Burgundian winemaking, and he is known for constantly challenging the borders of winemaking in Burgundy.

About the vintage: The 2020 vintage is absolutely excellent, lauded as 'almost a dream vintage' by top UK wine buyers and something that you should snap up while you can – especially since it’s clear that there’s going to be very little wine coming out of Burgundy next year (and at much higher prices!)
It is abundantly clear that 2020 produced some magnificent wines, with exceptional balance, freshness and full fruit maturity, yet that also remain very Burgundian in style. There is very little not to like.

A case includes 3 bottles of each wine.

3 bottles x Domaine de Bellene L'Éclos des Abeilles Coteaux Bourguignons 2020
White | Chardonnay
91 points - Wine Align, Michael Godel

The Coteaux Bourguignons 'Cuvée l'Eclos des Abeilles' comes from three magnificent parcels, left without vines for a long time, pre-phylloxera, with a great Terroir potential. These different terroirs are based in three villages, totalling 4 hectares. Released for the first time in 2018, this is a very ambitious white Burgundy from young, densely planted vineyards in Nuits-St-Georges and Saint Romain. Made without any added sulphur, it's the latest in a series of brilliant generic whites from Nicolas Potel, with chiselled, breezy flavours and a saline bite.

3 bottles x Domaine de Bellene Maison Dieu Bourgogne Vieilles Vignes 2020
Red Pinot Noir
92 points - Wine Align, Michael Godel

This is one of the oldest vines of Domaine de Bellene. Situated in the village of Pommard, the vineyards were planted in 1928 and the plot was bought by Nicolas Potel's parents in 1978. This plot always produces well balanced wines, and it has been farmed organically since 1992.

This wine is rich in colour and shows a complex aromatic palette and a beautiful structure. The nose is so attractive: the strawberry, raspberry and cranberry fruit have an earthy-twiggy depth, with a hint of cinnamon spice too. The tannins are fine and silky, and the lively acidity infuses the fruit on the palate with a pleasant juiciness.

About the Winery

Groupe Bellene

Led by Nicolas Potel in Beaune, Groupe Bellene is composed of the négociant arm Maison Roche de Bellene, the winery arm Domaine de Bellene, and a special back-vintage series under the Collection Bellenum label.

  • Maison Roche de Bellene offers a complete range of wines, with an emphasis on individual terroirs from old vines of more than 40 years. All of the growers that Nicolas works with are either organic certified or sustainably farmed.
  • Domaine de Bellene represents the wines that are produced and bottled from Nicolas Potel's private vineyard holdings.
  • Collection Bellenum is a back vintage series that Nicolas Potel sourced from his friends in the region, offering a magnificent selection of bottled history. The wines have moved only twice in their lives, from the original cellar to Potel's and now to yours!

Nicolas Potel grew up at Volnay's Domaine Pousse d'Or, where his father worked. He trained abroad and returned home in 1996 to build a négociant business and started Maison Nicolas Potel, where he sourced grapes from good parcels, often working with the growers to improve the quality. By 2002, he was making 120 wines from 50 different appellations, and the rest is history!
