Intense & Mineral

When Michel Muré settled in Rouffach and planted his vineyard in the 17th century, he surely had little conception of the beautiful adventure that he was setting in motion for his descendants. In 1935, Alfred Muré extended the property with the addition of the 12-hectare (25-acre) wholly owned Clos Saint Landelin, foreseeing already its potential for exceptional quality. He replanted the terraces, ideally situated with their sunny exposure and shelter from the rain.

Nowadays it is Alfred’s grandson René, together with his children Véronique and Thomas, the 11th and 12th generations of the family, who are responsible for running this exceptional, wholly-owned vineyard and its neighbouring terroirs, using biodynamic methods.

Muré wines are fine and rich with beautifully mineral acidities. This is achieved in the vineyard where Alsace’s naturally long ripening season is enhanced by Muré’s exceptional south-facing slopes. These are delightful and exciting wines, abundant in flavour, opulence and lacy acidity.

This product is part of the LCBO September Classics Catalogue. It will take approximately 3-4 weeks to be delivered from its release date.

About the Winery

Domaine Muré

The Muré family have been winegrowers in the region of Rouffach since 1650. In 1935, Alfred Muré, René’s grandfather, bought Clos St Landelin, a 32 acre family-monopole vineyard. Nowadays it is Alfred’s grandson René, together with his children Véronique and Thomas, the 11th and 12th generations of the family, who are responsible for running this exceptional, wholly-owned vineyard and its neighbouring terroirs, using biodynamic methods. To express the “terroir” in the wines and to preserve the heritage is the Muré family’s credo. Their wines are known for power, elegance and age worthiness.

Wine Spectator

93 Points

Beautifully aromatic, featuring lots of mineral and honey on the nose and palate, along with flavors of poached quince, sliced almond, star fruit and fleur de sel. Statuesque and framed by firm acidity, this is light- to medium-bodied, with a intense, mineral-driven finish. Drink now through 2030.

The fresh nose almost has a hint of salted lemon. On the palate both lemon and tart, red apple take over but the lemon streak of bright freshness dominates for now, creating drive. The concentrated body is bone dry and comes to a mouthwatering, superclean and long finish.

Maybe this isn't the most powerful dry riesling on the planet, but it has seductive apricot and floral aromas, as well as a great balance of juicy fruit and crisp, mineral acidity. Drink now or in 2019 and 2020. A very flexible food wine for European and East Asian cuisines. Made from organically and biodynamically grown grapes. Demeter certified.
