Garage Wine Co was literally started in a garage in 2001, by Etobicoke expat Derek Mossman and his wife Pilar Miranda. Since then, the dynamic duo have chosen to revive old vineyards in marginalized Chilean communities. They work mostly in the regions of Maule and Itata where they make highly coveted wines.
A case includes 1 bottle of each wine.
1 Garage Wine Co Semillón Isidore Vineyard F3 2020
White | Sémillon
93 points - Robert Parker
Fermented naturally in amphora, the juice remained on the skins for eleven months. This wine is a tribute to the resilience of the Semillon Variety in the Maule - forgotten and neglected for decades. Light blonde in colour this wine smells of lemon, candle wax and bee pollen. In the mouth, lemon juice, candied lemon peel and a touch of bee pollen mixed with white flowers and honey (but without sweetness). Faint chalky texture and great acidity make this a mouthwatering package.
1 bottle x Garage Wine Co Cariñena Field-Blend Bagual Vineyard Caliboro Lot 96 2018
Red | Cariñena, Grenache, Mataró
95 points - Robert Parker
This is a single-plot wine coming from the Bagual Vineyard, located near the banks of the Perquilauquen river. A river that (very unusual for Chile!) flows from the Coastal Mountains East towards the Andes passing through Caliboro bringing granitic silt with it. The expressive and aromatic nose of the 2016 Bagual Vineyard made Luis Gutierrez from Robert Parker think of a vermouth or a Barolo Chinato, with tons of aromatic herbs, spices and flowers. It has abundant, fine-grained tannins and a powerful mouthfeel, while at the same time, having elegance and balance.
1 bottle x Garage Wine Co Cabernet Franc Las Higueras Vineyard Lot 102 2018
Red | Cabernet Franc
94 points - Robert Parker
Las Higueras vineyard is an old plot planted with 115 year old Cabernet Franc, that Derek and Pilar have been recovering since 2013 with the support of their dry-farming vignerons partners from Sauzal and Puico. The intense nose contains blackberry and maraschino cherries with bell pepper, herbs and a hint of tobacco. A rustic texture combines with firm tannins that get very juicy when woken up by the fresh acidity that moves into a long finish with soft woody notes. A serious wine.
1 bottle x Garage Wine Co Syrah Truquilemu Vineyard Maule Valley Lot 108 2019
Red | Syrah
94 points - Deschorchados
This Syrah is a wine built upon fragrance and energy with dark red cherries and raspberries, violets and pink peppercorn. A well grained tannic power combined with linear stony minerality and a chalky texture on the finish. Heaps of electricity-- a very granitic wine.
1 bottle x Garage Wine Co Cariñena Field-Blend Sauzal Vineyard Lot 95 2018
Red | Grenache, Mataró
96 points - Robert Parker
This wine is a single parcel field blend made from Carignan, Garnacha and Mataro, belonging to Don Nivaldo Morales and his wife Otelia and located in Sauzal, on the Coastal Range, where the soils are way older and more complex than the Andes. As Derek says, it is a tribute to the resilience of the ploughmen farmers of the Maule who have been stewards of the vines since colonial times.
The nose is fresh and has tantalizing aromas of blueberries, violets, orange peel, raspberry leaf and aniseed with a touch of aromatic herbs that provide freshness. The palate is electric, with citric acidity, ultra-fine tannins and very good length. This is both rustic and elegant, wild and subtle. None of these wines show any alcohol or wood. This is a superb, fresh, Mediterranean blend that shows what the Maule is capable of.
1 bottle x Garage Wine Co Renacido Vineyard Maule Valley Lot 104 2019
Red | Cabernet Sauvignon
96 points - Robert Parker
From the banks of the Perquilauquén River in the Caliboro zone in Maule’s dry-farmed secano, this cabernet has the rustic, tannic side of the valley’s reds, but they’re very well tamed by the alluvial soils of the vineyard. This wine pushes the limits in terms of latitude for Cabernet Sauvignon and is a beautiful expression of the varietal and terroir.
