Ricardo Carreiro founded Coto de Gomariz in the seventies, when he managed to return to his land after emigrating to South America like so many other Galicians. His dream was to make wines and restore Gomariz's prestige as a historical vineyard. Known as the "Golden Mile" of the Ribeiro since the 10th century, Gomariz is the oldest Viticultural Reserve in the Iberian Peninsula and has exceptional characteristics for growing grapes.
This mixed case includes one bottle of each wine.
The Flower and The Bee Treixadura D.O. Ribeiro 2020. Bright, green-hued yellow. Racy, mineral-accented citrus and orchard fruit aromas pick up chalky mineral and ginger nuances with air. Taut and focused on the palate, offering fresh lemon, green apple and melon flavours and a hint of fennel. The mineral note drives a long, detailed finish that leaves a citrus pith note and a subtle touch of honey behind.
The Flower and The Bee Sousón D.O. Ribeiro 2020. Smoke- and spice-accented cherry pit, blackberry and floral scents are complemented by hints of liquorice and succulent herbs. Nicely concentrated yet lively as well, offering bitter cherry and dark berry flavours that slowly unfurl through the back half. Closes long and subtly chewy, with firming tannins and repeating spice and floral notes.
Coto de Gomariz Treixadura Blend D.O. Ribeiro 2019. The eponymous white Coto de Gomariz has the moss and river stones character that is the giveaway of a white Ribeiro. It's characterful and has power and balance, keeping the freshness and focus. On the nose, it is lively, mineral, citrusy, floral and gingery. On the palate is also silky and delivers flavours of orange zest, lemon pith and bitter quince.
Coto de Gomariz Abadía de Gomariz D.O. Ribeiro 2015. Abadía de Gomariz is a blend Sousón (50%) with some Brancellao, Ferrol and Mencía, all indigenous varieties of Galicia. Beautifully complex on the nose, the Abadía de Gomariz opens up with a dark fruit bouquet of black cherry, black currant and liquorice; all of which mingle with earthy notes of tree bark, finely crushed granite, wisps of smoke and botanicals. The wine reveals itself on the palate as a full-bodied wine, with moderate tannins and a special grip, signature of the complex soils of the vineyard.
Coto de Gomariz Finca O Figueiral D.O. Ribeiro 2018. O Figueiral, a plot that surrounds the estate, was the first plot restored by Carreiro after coming back from South America in the seventies. There is yellow fruit, balsam, spices, herbs and reminiscences of wet stones. The palate is compact and the flavours focused, pure and long. The palate is very focused, precise, and nicely chiseled, with delineation and minerality that make it very tasty and long. It has great freshness and balance with no trace of flavours from the ten months it spent in barrel.
Coto de Gomariz 12 2019. 12 is Coto de Gomariz's sweet wine. With only 8.9% alcohol and a killer acidity (9,02 gr/L of total acidity versus 80 gr/L of sugar!), this wine is made from Treixadura grapes grown in a small plot in the north of the Ribeiro D.O. On the nose, it delivers fragrant aromas of stone fruit, candied orange and tangerine zest; accompanied by notes of green tea, jasmine flowers and honeycomb wax. The palate is citrusy, fresh, sweet yet vibrant, with a beautiful roundness and minerality from the granitic soils where the vines thrive.
