Earthy & Spicy

Proudly family owned, the Borthwick vineyard is an established vineyard situated in Gladstone, the heart of the Wairarapa. Producing quality wine for over a decade, Paddy, an experienced wine maker, has gained a reputation for producing consistently great wines. The twenty seven hectares of vines bordering the Ruamahunga River are growing on stony, free draining, alluvial soils, with a micro climate giving warm daily temperatures, cool nights and low rainfall; perfect conditions for producing distinctive, quality wines.

Traditional Burgundian techniques and minimal handling has produced a Pinot Noir with an intense bouquet of cherries and plums. Flavours of earth and spice complement a rich silky palate with a purity of fruit and finely integrated tannin structure.

A perfect pairing for grilled quail, roasted chicken or the richness of pork shoulder. This wine can also stand up to glazed salmon or a decadent pizza with sweet potato, balsamic onions and soppressata.

This product is part of the LCBO February Classics Catalogue. It will take approximately 3-4 weeks to be delivered from its release date.

Wine Orbit

95 Points

Sweetly fruited and immediately appealing, the wine shows ripe plum, spiced cherry, dried herb, vanilla and roasted hazelnut aromas on the nose. The palate is equally satisfying with succulent fruit intensity and expansive mouthfeel, backed by fine-grained tannins, leading to a lengthy delicious finish. At its best: now to 2026.

James Suckling

92 Points

Attractively pure and focused red cherries with a spicy background layer, leading to a palate that has super fine, sleek and delicately muscular tannin that builds to a gently coffee-laced finish. Lots to like here. Drink now.
