Floral & Savoury

Channing Daughters grow vines and create wines from over two-dozen grape varieties on a beautiful, breeze-filled 28-acre plot of land in Bridgehampton, on the South Fork of Long Island’s East End.

'Ramato' ('coppery') refers to the old Friulian style of fermenting Pinot Grigio on its skins, thus creating a copper-coloured wine. Fruit for this wine was picked by hand and fermented on the skins using wild ambient yeast before maturing in old French and Slovenian oak for four months. Look for fresh and dried flowers, dried fruits and gingerbread.

This orange wines can be enjoyed quite simply as an aperitif with pistachios, almonds and hazelnuts, or pop and pour with pasta salad and Parmigiano-Reggiano.

This product is part of the LCBO Vintages program. It may take approximately 10-14 business days to be delivered.

About the Winery

Channing Daughters

Atlantic breezes cool Channing Daughters vineyards creating a climate hospitable to a wide array of fascinating grape varieties. At Channing Daughters they grow and create wines from over two dozen varieties. They are the only winery on the East End growing and producing wines from Blaufrankisch, Tocai Friulano, among many other unusual grapes. Their home is a beautiful plot of land in Bridgehampton that contains twenty-eight acres of vines, a small winery and tasting room. Channing Daighters sources about fifty percent of our grapes from special sites and people on the North Fork.

Channing Daughters Winery's foremost commitment is the care of their grapevines and the quality of wine in the bottle. Their priorities are deliciousness and reflection of our place! Starting with intense and careful culture of the vines to the hand-picking of ALL grapes, gentle whole cluster-pressing of white fruit, stomping by foot with punch-down by hand of red grapes, and gravity bottling, their methods remain traditional and artisanal. Wine is grown by hand at Channing Daughters.

Wine Align

92 points - Michael Godel

Ramato from the Italian, as a in a coppery colour and the name here a pinot grigio fermented on its skins, Friulian style. Fruit sources are the home farm in Bridgehampton and the Mudd West Vineyard on Long Island’s North Fork. The length of skin-contact time is a varietally generous 16 days and the wine then ages in older 500L French and Slovenian oak puncheons for four months. Truth is this is a stellar usage of Long Island raised pinot grigio. The variegate of tone, hue, ripenesses and personality within a single grape bunch and also vines from two different forks makes for a challenge at the best of vintages and times. Encouraging this kind of free-form and naturally undertaken style allows the variabilities to coalesce and unite with the great variegate of chance at the crux and the core. There are flavours and textures here within that would not be possible under any other winemaking circumstance. Not a train wreck, au contraire, instead a jumbled verse in mess of fruit, tisane and gingered bitters all tied up in a citrus refrain. If this just happened so be it because best laid plans can ruin a category. If planned then kudos to the chef. In a New York epiphany moment. Drink 2021-2024. Tasted May 2021.
