About the Winery
Azienda Agricola Tessari
The Tessari family have Soave in their blood. For three generations they have been extracting delectable wine from the well cared for vines of their Monteforte d’Alpone vineyards. With only a little over a hectare of Garganega grapes in the prestigious volcanic solis of Soave Classico, Antonio Tessari hand dug his cellar back in 1933 and started the legacy that continues today with his grandchildren: Germano, Antonio and Cornelia.
From vineyard to bottle, these three siblings oversee it all; with unwavering respect for tradition, quality and passion for the art of winemaking. The volcanic soils of the hillside are rich with basaltic rocks and clays, which guarantees the health of the plant and the promotes the mineral and floral aromas that are characteristic of the Garganega grape. Truly artisanal wine making at it’s best.

This next Soave incantation from siblings Cornelia, Antonio and Germano continues Grandpa Antonio, Mama Bianca and Papa Aldo’s work. Their single-vineyard garganega comes off of 40-45 year old vines from the area of Brognoligo di Monteforte. Yes it’s a Soave Classico connection but few do what this crew does with the lowest of low yields. The ’18 is so bloody amenable, still volcanic salty and never losing focus. So delicious, as always. Drink 2020-2024. Tasted March 2020.

This 100% garganega pours medium deep yellow. It has a soft, subtle nose of ripe peach, ground cherry/gooseberry, fennel and herbs. It is much firmer on the palate than the colour and nose suggest, with very good acidity and minerality from the volcanic soils. Quite dry, mouth-watering and a touch bitter. The length is excellent. Tasted March 2020.

A smoky, ripe, orange and yellow-fleshed fruit-scented volcanic Soave here, complex and inviting. The palate shows some CO2 that freshens and firms up the billowing fruit and stony flavours. Fleshy, quite dense, solidly flavoured in the price category. Tasted March 2020.

A restaurant favourite, this bright and sumptuous garganega is a real pleasure to drink now but should develop gracefully over the next 3-4 years. Offering delicately floral aromas of peach blossom and lemon and a hint of sage. An appealing dichotomy of crunchy and viscous gives the palate plenty of textural appeal. Sourced from organically certified fruit. Memorable length. Tasted January 2020.
