Just when you think you are lost in the floodplains of the Po River in Reggio Emilia, you find the Alberici's family farm, a bucolic land planted with rare old vines. Amilcare Alberici works alongside his daughter Adrianna, and together they craft fully organic wines, with very little intervention and lots of heart and soul.
Made from 100% Fogarina, an ancient grapevine that is typical of the area but that almost disappeared sixty years ago. In 2002, Amilcare rediscovered it and vinfied it; and also petitioned to get Fogarina officially listed with the regional registry of permissible grape varieties: it was nearly extinct.
Fresh and vibrant, it shows tart currant and slightly vegetal qualities in juxtaposition to purple berry ripeness. Bright with a balanced acidity, this frizzante breaks all the patterns of what you would expect from a regular lambrusco.
The ideal pairing: ravioli with ragú, heavy on the guanciale and with more than the necessary amount of parmigiano-regiano.
