Proudly family owned, the Borthwick vineyard is an established vineyard situated in Gladstone, the heart of the Wairarapa. Producing quality wine for over a decade, Paddy, an experienced wine maker, has gained a reputation for producing consistently great wines. The twenty seven hectares of vines bordering the Ruamahunga River are growing on stony, free draining, alluvial soils, with a micro climate giving warm daily temperatures, cool nights and low rainfall; perfect conditions for producing distinctive, quality wines.

Traditional Burgundian techniques and minimal handling has produced a Pinot Noir with an intense bouquet of cherries and plums. Flavours of earth and spice complement a rich silky palate with a purity of fruit and finely integrated tannin structure.

A perfect pairing for grilled quail, roasted chicken or the richness of pork shoulder. This wine can also stand up to glazed salmon or a decadent pizza with sweet potato, balsamic onions and soppressata.

It’s gorgeously fruited and inviting on the nose showing dark cherry, sweet raspberry, thyme and almond characters with subtle mushroom complexity. The palate is wonderfully weighted and flavoursome, while remaining elegant and refined. It’s delightfully framed by polished tannins, finishing long and very appealing. At its best: now to 2026.
