The Moreau family has been settled in the heart of Chablis since 1884. Louis Moreau, the sixth generation, studied oenology and viticulture in California and took over from his father when he returned to France in 1994. Nowadays, the domaine's vineyards extend all over the four levels of the appellation: Petit Chablis, Chablis, Premier Cru and Grand Cru.

Chablis Valmur Grand Cru sits northwest of Les Clos and features pure Kimmeridgian soil and southwest exposure. Valmur is typically firm and full-bodied, and Louis Moreau’s parcel sits at the top of the vineyard where it receives ample sun. “Valmur is low yielding, concentrated, and ripe,” says Louis Moreau, “it’s the only wine that sees a more Burgundian vinification."

The Domaine Louis Moreau Chablis Valmur Grand Cru is robust and powerful, with aromas of stone fruit and citrus. It is vinified in the style of Côte de Beaune, with some oak aging. Pair this full-bodied Chablis with roasted pork with candied chestnuts and spices.

This product is part of the LCBO April Classics Catalogue. It will take approximately 3-4 weeks to be delivered from its release date.

About the Winery

Domaine Louis Moreau

Winemaker Louis Moreau is the master of the Chablis terroir, where he bottles 100% Chardonnay wines from all four levels of appellation: Petit Chablis, Chablis, Chablis Premier Crus and Chablis Grands Cru.

The Domaine owns parcels in five of the seven Grands Cru climats, and works with many plots throughout the region in a sustainable manner. The most prestigious of its wines is the monopole Chablis Grand Cru 'Clos des Hospices' dans Les Clos AOC 2016, acquired by the Moreau family in 1904.

Louis Moreau, who has been leading the domaine since 1994, produces wines with a unique style. Louis Moreau studied oenology-viticulture at Fresno State University and worked at different Californian wineries before he took over the Domaine's operations in 1994, representing the family's sixth generation of vignerons.

A funky, earthy tinge on the nose of this wine also references fresh chalkiness and something lactic. The palate wipes any funkiness away with spankingly fresh, ripe and juicy stone fruit that is pervaded by zesty citrus. An attractive texture already reveals chalkiness and a core of mouthwatering pithiness. Lovely now (but decant), the wine will show more of its stony depth with bottle age. Drink now–2035.

All of Louis Moreau's Valmur vines face south, so this wine can be quite rich. For the first time in 2017 it was unwooded, which has added more zip and life to the waxy, fresh and leesy palate, with stone fruit sweetness and a tangy finish.
